In the Beuys anniversary year (*1921 – †1986), the Kunsthalle Bielefeld focuses on the trees that have stood directly in front of the museum’s entrance on the median strip of Artur-Ladebeck-Strasse since 1985. The 16 linden trees, along with basalt stones, were planted as part of Joseph Beuys’ legendary campaign entitled “7000 Oaks” (1982-87). At that time the planting was an artistic, as it were political-ecological act and prelude for the greening of the city of Bielefeld. This artistic installation is the starting point of the documentary exhibition.
