Yto Barrada
Bad Color Combos

The exhibition “Bad Color Combos” shows recent works by the French-Moroccan artist Yto Barrada (*1971). In her multimedia works (installations, sculptures, films, photographs, and textile works), Barrada explores questions of cultural, political, and personal history and identity. Family histories, repressed traditions, feminist ecologies, and alternative strategies for acquiring knowledge are as much a part of her work as a fundamental critique of modernism. The exhibition title also refers to the fundamental role that color plays as a material and as a medium in her work.
The exhibition is produced in cooperation with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
