Artist Talk with Jeff Wall, held on 17 March 2021.

In winter 2020, “The Thinker” by Auguste Rodin, which has flanked the entrance of the Kunsthalle Bielefeld since its opening in 1968, went on loan.
In its place, the internationally renowned Canadian artist Jeff Wall (*1946) is showing “The Thinker” (1986) and “The Giant” (1992), two works that reflect on thinking itself. Wall, known for his monumental, staged photographs in light boxes, creates narrative compositions in both works that address the role of the artist and art in society, the power of thought and knowledge, or even role models.

An artist talk with Jeff Wall was held on 17 March 2021 by Christina Végh, Director of Kunsthalle Bielefeld, and Prof. Dr. Steffen Siegel, Folkwang University of the Arts, Essen. We thank Jeff Wall for his permission to present the recording of the talk here.
